My name is Abigail (she/her/hers), I am a Masters of Counselling student intern offering virtual neuro-affirming support for kids and teens.

I began working with neurodivergent kids and teens about three years ago. Over the past few years, I have had the opportunity to work with many autistic individuals, as well as individuals with ADHD and diverse learning abilities. While being involved in this work, I found a passion for supporting individuals as they navigate unique challenges of being neurodivergent in a world that often tailors to neurotypical minds.

In sessions with kids and teens, I emphasize creativity, safety, belonging, and working with clients at a pace that makes them feel comfortable and supported. Based on my own experience, I want to create a space for kids and teens that is free of pressure and expectations, where they can receive support with emotional regulation and work toward meaningful goals in a way that feels secure for them.

As a student counsellor, I work from a neuro-affirming and person-centered perspective. The pace of sessions will be led by the clients, integrating games and collaborative activities in the virtual space. My goal is for kids and teens to feel celebrated for their uniqueness, setting collaborative goals and working with families to ensure counselling is an emotionally safe and supportive environment.
